Palazzo Comunale

PIENZA

In front of the Cathedral rises the Town Hall, made entirely in travertine, with a loggia on the ground floor. On ,the covered gallery, made of three arcades, stands a story that opens up with slender and light , mullioned windows in travertine. On the right side, there’s a two storied tower in brick, with battlements , that appears shorter than the bell tower to underline the major importance of ecclesiastical power over civil power. The facade is decorated in a graffito style, but the actual appearance is due to late XIXth century restoration. Presently, the palace is the headquarters of the Town Administration. It houses, inside the Town Council Room, a fresco by Sienese School, dated 1400, representing a Madonna with Child and the patron Saints of Pienza. In front of the Cathedral rises the Town Hall, made entirely in travertine, with a loggia on the ground floor.
