San Niccolò a Spedaletto

PIENZA

The church of St. Nicholas is a sacred building which is located inside the castle Spedaletto and was consecrated in 1462. The façade with rose window and portal bezel probably dates from the fourteenth century. The lunette was a bas-relief of the mid-fifteenth century, depicting the Madonna and Child with Musical Angels, now in the Diocesan Museum of Pienza.

Within a single nave, on the left wall are two paintings: the first, from the early fifteenth century, depicting the Baptism of Christ, the second, of the sixteenth century, depicting the Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints. Other frescoes on the wall right on the front of the altar, and most featuring Saint Benedict (late fifteenth century) and the Pietà (XV century).
