The Church of Mercy is a sacred building situated in the historical center of Pienza. The church, already existing in the XVIIth century is dedicated to the Madonna of the Olive. It underwent devastating restructuring works during the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries, when it was transformed and enlarged. In 1861, the Pious Association of Mercy was founded. The facade is very simple, designed in a neo classical style with a portal with architrave and a gabled roof. In 1879, the small bell tower ( a vela) has been rebuilt. The interior consists in one nave with three altars in a Baroque style. On the lateral altars, there are two XVIIIth century paintings : on the right, Saint Pasquale Babylon; on the left, San Luigi Gozanga.The Church of Mercy is a sacred building situated in the historical center of Pienza.
