From the Foce, turning right on the dirt road that takes to Monticchiello, one arrives in Castelluccio, in the past called Castello dei Bifolchi, denomination based on the first owner’s name. Castelluccio has been known since 1320 as property of the township of Montichiello, itself , in turn, subjected to the Republic of Siena. It was Siena, that recognizing the village as a boundary post , fortified it, in the XIVth century, providing it with two angular towers, circular and still in perfect conditions, and it also installed a small garrison therein. In 1390, part of the Castle was donated to Santa Maria della Scala Hospital, to which it belonged until 1787, functioning as a granary ( a fortified farm ). From then on, it has changed several owners.
