The painting presents clear stylistic and compositional elements that allow it to be placed among the late works of Raffaello Vanni. This attribution is supported by apt comparisons with works by the Sienese painter, such as the canvas depicting the "Madonna and Child with Saints Philip and James," preserved in the Roman church of San Lorenzo in Miranda, or with the "Death of Saint Thomas of Villanova" in the collegiate church of Ariccia, and with "Saint Francis in Meditation before the Crucifix" from the Chigi Saracini Collection in Siena.
