DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The Virgin, whose face has been reconstructed rather clumsily, breastfeeds the Child Jesus in her lap. The Madonna is surrounded by angels and two praying saints: the apostle Peter on the left, easily recognizable by the keys he holds, and Paul on the right, recognizable by the long sword he leans on.
This is a devotional image, like those found in small country churches; it possesses the particular charm of images to which faithful people have gathered, for centuries and even today, to make simple vows or to entrust all their hopes to the Madonna.
Even today, during the week surrounding May 8th, many ceremonies are held in honor of the Virgin.
