DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Tempera on panel, 81 x 52 cm.
The Virgin is called the Virgin of Humility because she is seated on the ground, following a model dear to the Order of Friars Minor Franciscans.
The Madonna holds the Child Jesus in her right arm and gently caresses His foot with her left hand, as a mother does.
The terribly sad and thoughtful expression on her face was noticed by the Child, who caresses her cheek in a gesture of comfort and makes the unchildish gesture of blessing. This is truly the sign that we are before the Son of God.
