Angelo annunciante Montalcino
Artist: Angelo di Nalduccio
Year: 1378 circa
Current location: Museo Civico e Diocesano Riuniti
Original location: Chiesa San Francesco
DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Polychrome sculpture on wood, height 176 cm.
The two polychrome wooden sculptures (Angel Announcing the Virgin and Virgin Annunciate) are installed on either side of Bartolo di Fredi's polyptych of the Coronation of the Virgin. They originally occupied the same position on the altar of the Chapel of the Annunciation in the church of San Francesco.
This is undoubtedly why they are believed to have always been part of a coherent ensemble, although the two sculptures were commissioned approximately ten years before the polyptych's completion.
