DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Tempera on panel, overall dimensions: 332 x 279 cm.
Completed in 1388, as indicated by the date engraved under the central panel, the Polyptych of the Coronation of the Virgin was dismembered, likely in the 18th or early 19th century, and its panels dispersed.
It has now been reconstructed, with the exception of six panels belonging to foreign collections, a situation that makes their display at the Montalcino Museum definitively impossible.
In an attempt to create a scenographic effect reminiscent of the original display in the Chapel of the Annunciation within the Church of San Francesco in Montalcino, the work is presented with two polychrome wooden sculptures depicting the two protagonists of the Annunciation on either side.
