DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Polychrome wooden sculpture, height 181 cm
The two polychrome wooden sculptures (Angel Announcing the Virgin and Virgin Annunciate) are installed on either side of the polyptych of the Coronation of the Virgin by Bartolo di Fredi. They originally occupied the same position on the altar of the Chapel of the Annunciation in the Church of San Francesco. This is undoubtedly why they are believed to have always been part of a coherent ensemble, although the two sculptures were commissioned approximately ten years before the polyptych's completion.
