The tiny village may have developed already in Roman times. The Castle, mentioned in a document by Ludovico il Pio (778-840), is then mentioned in 1208, among those places required to pay an extraordinary tax to Siena; subsequently, in 1438, it was aggregated directly to the Sienese county.
The solitary keep of the keep and some cracked and poorly collapsed walls remain from the ancient castle. Inside the court the continuous tampering made over the centuries does not give the possibility to understand what was the ancient organization of space.
Of the adjoining Pieve di San Pancrazio, given the many successive changes over time, it is not possible to infer a stylistic attribution.
A halo of mystery and charm still lingers in the ancient village, enhanced by the lush vegetation that surrounds it.
